How to make the most of your job search on-the-go

In today’s increasingly hectic world, time truly is a luxury not many of us can afford. And while you may have previously promised yourself that you would set aside some time this week to apply for some new job opportunities, chances are that promise went straight out the window as soon as you stepped into the office.

But applying for jobs doesn’t have to be a time-consuming affair. With today’s technology, applying for a new job can be as quick as you make it, whether you’re on the bus on your way home, or you have a few spare minutes between meetings - you might even be sunning yourself on a beach in Santorini.

Here’s everything you need to know about applying for jobs on the go:

Tip 1: Download your CV.

First things first, you’ll need to have access to your CV from your mobile device in order to apply for anything, so send yourself a copy of your CV and download it to your smartphone, or store it safely away on Google Docs or Dropbox.

It’s also useful to have access to a recent cover letter – you can quickly customise it to each job you apply for.

Tip 2: Have access to your inbox.

In order to make the process as simple as possible, make sure you have downloaded your email provider’s app to your phone. This way, if there are any job ads that ask for you to apply via email, you’ll have everything you need to do so through your phone.

Tip 3: Sign up to get job alerts.

Instead of browsing through page after page of irrelevant job ads, make sure you sign up to job alerts. This way you’ll get an email notification every time a new and relevant job comes on the market. Here’s how to sign up to Hudson’s email alerts.

Tip 4: Find your favourite sites.

There are many different apps and job boards out there that make the job application process significantly easier through a smartphone device. Some sites let you pull material from your previous applications, while others let you apply with one click of the button. Find out which sites and apps work best for you and download them or save them to your bookmarks.

Tip 5: Upload your CV.

Applying for jobs that catch your eye is obviously your best shot at landing the right job, but it’s also worth uploading your CV or details to sites like Reed, or keeping your LinkedIn profile up-to-date. This way you’ll be able to get your name out there and employers or recruitment agencies can contact you with relevant jobs instead of the other way around.

With these tools at your disposal, you’ll have everything you need to succeed in your job search.
