Cycle challenge raises cash for homeless in Scotland

Cycling enthusiasts from across Scotland are set to descend on Kelso to take on a grueling challenge of cycling either 50 or 100 miles to raise money to help homeless and badly housed people in Scotland.

Now in its third year the Borders Cycle Challenge has gone from strength to strength expecting over 100 cyclists to take part in the route raising more than £15,000 for housing and homeless charity Shelter Scotland.

The route will take in some of Scotland’s most stunning scenery including Scotts View and some towns and villages such as Kelso, Duns, Greenlaw and Coldstream.

Scott Maxwell, Head of Audit, Risk and Compliance at Hudson co-founded the challenge with Ewen Fleming of Professional Services firm Grant Thornton several years previously. Scott said:

“It’s great to see so many people taking part to help disadvantaged people across Scotland.

“I feel extremely proud and humbled that the money raised will go to help those affected by the housing crisis and homelessness.

“We’re encouraging everyone who has a bike and the enthusiasm to jump on the saddle to join us on September 18th 2016 for what promises to be a spectacular, fun and enjoyable ride in aid of a very worthwhile cause’.

Scott’s weeks in the run up to the challenge will involve cycling over 100 miles per week ensure he has the stamina to climb the calf-busting ascent of 2,000 metres.

Scott said:

I’m a keen cyclist, but I’m also a very keen eater! My colleagues and I will be doing everything we can in the run up to the event to ensure we exceed our fund raising target.
