Hudson Successfully Recruits Multiple IT Roles for a New Media Start-Up Company

The Client

The client is a VC backed start-up online fashion retailer. As a new business, this client needed to quickly recruit a number of highly-skilled technology professionals to build robust and scalable systems for the company’s launch and on-going expansion plans.

The Challenge

The market for the skills this client required is very competitive with a real “war for talent” existing, particularly in West London where there is a high concentration of similar businesses that use the same skills. Also, the market for creative web development has a high percentage of contractors/freelancers that move from company to company, whereas this client wanted to employ and keep the skills and knowledge within their business as they grew.

Our solution

Hudson was invited in to a competitive pitch where the outcome was expected to be a multiple agency preferred supplier list to fill multiple roles moving forward. As specialists in new media recruitment with in-depth knowledge of the marketplace we suggested a different solution to the client, which was to work on a sole partner basis to recruit all ten positions within a six week period. The client bought in to our idea of working with them as their recruitment partner and the plan was agreed.

The first step was to meet with all stakeholders to get not just an understanding of the individual requirements, but also of the company's goals and drivers and existing personalities within the company. This would help us to not only find skills against a requirement, but that had the right motivation, competency fit and energies that would suit this client as they grow.

The methodology used to find the best candidates from this competitive marketplace was to use a combination of our well-developed network of contacts, database search and online advertising. Candidates were taken through initial telephone screening and then face-to-face interviews by Hudson combined with technical testing where appropriate. The shortlisted candidates were then submitted to the client along with interview notes and test results for interviews. Hudson advised the client that they should make the interview process as slick and smooth as possible to get the most buy-in from the candidates submitted, so the client agreed to see candidates to final in one day.

The result of this approach was an overall 2.3 to 1 ratio of client interviews to offer and successful placement within a five week period for all ten roles, ranging from developer to project manager.

Results

Hudson delivered the end results that the client needed well within their fairly tough timescales and Hudson is now seen as their one and only recruitment partner.
