Supporting a Major NHS Transformation Programme

The Challenge

A large NHS trust in the Home Counties was going through a £100 million plus service transformation programme. As part of this programme, Hudson IT was specifically asked to supply a Contract Informatics Project Team. The project included Electronic Patient Record (EPR) replacement, CRM Access Centre (Single Point of Access), a mobile/flexible working programme and a business intelligence project.

Hudson IT led the management/recruitment of a large contract project team to meet the identified needs of the client, acquiring and utilising the necessary resources and skills, within agreed parameters of cost, timescales and quality.

With a strong track record in delivering to NHS specific business and technical IT projects, having worked closely with a number of trusts on similarly scaled projects, Hudson could provide strong testimonials and case studies as part of the supplier selection process. The project was put out to tender, Hudson gave them confidence that as trusted advisors they could deliver across the wide variety of requirements in the short timescales demanded.

The Solution

Hudson met with the Director of Informatics & IM&T to understand the requirements, prepared a tailored solution with specific deliverables and embarked upon an extensive search and a far-reaching branded advertising campaign. Among the specific methodologies employed were: talent pooling; utilising Hudson’s specialist networks to attract those that delivered similar projects in the health sector; presenting interview notes, CVs and detailed coversheets to help the trust when reviewing candidates.

Hudson engaged with over 1,000 applicants, conducted over 50 first round face-to-face interviews and produced a short list for each requirement with ratios of 2:1 (CVs submitted: requirement), before submitting candidates to the client. Weekly catch-up meetings were set up with all the placed contractors and the management team and MI reports supplied on a monthly basis to the PMO.

Hudson IT’s experience in delivering project teams for large NHS projects meant they were well versed with the internal politics and sensitivity around cost. Hudson supplied the best talent at affordable rates to help them to try and meet programme and project deliverables within restrictive budgets.

The Result

Hudson’s on-going support was significant during the project ensuring that the contractors placed were of the highest calibre, managing to fill some extremely difficult requirements with quality candidates on time and to budget.

The Hudson IT team engaged closely with the client to gain a full understanding of what was required both from a cultural and technical perspective and kept in regular contact to ensure applicants were relevant - this was important as the client’s needs evolved over the course of the project.
