Are your future leaders up to the job?

Emerging Leaders Report

Effective leadership is crucial to business success – no more so than during a period of fragile growth, rapid change and ambiguity.

Hudson’s latest research paper – Emerging Leaders; differences that matter found that although emerging leaders show great strengths, they still have a long way to go to match the abilities, talents and capabilities of today’s leaders.

During the economic downturn many businesses have stripped back their workforce, reshaped their organisational structures and reduced or frozen their management development budgets.  As the economy improves, you will need to turn attention to who will lead your organisation through growth and effectively manage the change process that entails.

Our research also identified the strength of the female emerging leader in that they are more likely to possess the skills set in demand as companies look to meet the challenge of the new business environment. Being more organised, having a conceptual view, an open style of communication and adopting a human approach were all skills which allied themselves more naturally to females.

As an organisation you must take action now. Look to your current teams;

•    What leadership profile do you need to be successful?
•    Have you identified your emerging leadership talent?
•    How do you plan to support them?

By starting to answer these questions you begin your journey on building a team to support your organisation to grow, flourish and prosper.

Below is Hudson’s 4 point action plan as to how your organisation can plan and assess
your emerging leader capability:

1.    Establish a high potential talent management strategy
2.    Set up a high potential committee
3.    Bring in talent management experts
4.    Manage and tailor their career paths
